[Using Will’s pendulum to separate him from the friend is the kind of thing they have never needed to do before. The whole attack was almost improvised, exactly as it was when they chose to occupy a victim’s body.]

Improvising these things is never a good idea.

People here don't generally take kindly to people making them feel things, like that. Will Graham isn't the only one who'd react like that.

I know. I attacked Will because I wanted to see what would happen without the Rift. I will likely not do anything else here, because now I know that staying hidden is no longer an option.

Avalon shows up at Rawne’s door about ten minutes later. When he lets them in, they act on impulse. They reach their hand up behind his head, their bracelet pressing into the back of his neck. Slowly, they press their lips to his. If this, whatever this is, is the reason that they lost a bead, they want to understand it.

Rawne tenses up at the kiss, then relaxes and kisses them back. He wraps an arm around their waist, slowly, holding them to him.

This is what humans love so much. This is part of how the friend got through to their failed victim.

Huh.

They trail their hands down Rawne’s back until the two of them hold each other. Avalon breaks the kiss, but remains in his embrace. They can taste the alcohol, and they are unsure if they like it or not.

Rawne blinks at them for a moment, then licks his lips. "How was it?"

Avalon removes their arms from around him. “Different.” They stare at Rawne’s eyes, trying to decode the expression in them.

Rawne backs up a step or two, still looking at Avalon. His face is mostly composed, but his eyes show how close he is to falling apart. They glisten, a little, with tears starting to collect.
