[Once Norton gets back to his cabin, changes into pajamas, and settles himself in bed, he calls Rawne.]

Rawne, darling, now don't kill anyone just yet but I was murdered again.

[Rawne drops his communicator on his bed, gets up, stalks in a circle, then picks it up. He's gripping it hard, though. And his other fist is clenched.]

Again? What? How?

[pharadyne]

Connor. Although it's really Jacobi who's responsible. But murders haven't really worked out well for either of us in the past, so I'm considering alternatives.

[major_rawne]

Jacobi.

[His voice is flat. Jacobi had been friendly. Had he planned this then?]

He reprogrammed Connor?

[pharadyne]

Yes. But I don't think Connor was programmed to attack me specifically. That wasn't the impression I got at all. Connor was after the pistol I was carrying. And asked for any other weapons I had, said he'd let me live if I gave them to him, but I fought back instead. I don't know what Jacobi's intentions were, but I got caught up in it.

Has Jacobi said anything to you, any indication that there's someone here he wants dead?

No. But we didn't talk much, just blew up cars in the Enclosure.

I know you said no murder, but would you mind if I punched him in the face?

[pharadyne]

Oh, I don't mind that at all. That seems entirely fair.

[major_rawne]

I'll do it as soon as he gets out of Zero, then.

[pharadyne]

In the meantime, come over to my cabin and stay with me until I fall asleep.

[major_rawne]

I'll be right there.

[He takes a moment to shake the last of the anger out of himself and goes over to Norton's door, knocking on it.]

[pharadyne]

Come in, sweetheart, the door's unlocked! [Norton calls out instead of getting out of bed.

He does hope that that's Rawne knocking, otherwise he just let an unknown person in.]

[major_rawne]

[Rawne does slip inside and sits on the edge of Norton's bed to take his shoes off.]

What would you have done if that hadn't been me?

[pharadyne]

[Norton shrugs.]

I don't know. Thrown a pillow at them?

[major_rawne]

How effective.

[But he stretches out next to Norton and holds out an arm, so Norton can curl up next to him.]

[pharadyne]

I'd make sure it was my largest pillow.

[He presses up against Rawne and rests his head on his chest.]

[major_rawne]

A fearsome weapon.

[He wraps his arm around Norton. The last of the tension leaves his body now that he's got Norton close and he can feel that he's not dead anymore.]

[pharadyne]

If I'd planned in advance, I could have stuffed it with bricks and razor blades.

But I didn't.

[major_rawne]

Now that you've thought of it, you'll have to make the world's most uncomfortable pillow. For defense.

[pharadyne]

Right now you can be my defense pillow. More comfortable than bricks and razor blades, too.

[major_rawne]

Good that I rate that high, at least.

[pharadyne]

Oh, darling, you rate very well. If I were feeling better I'd write you a review like a proper connoisseur. "A delightful mix of hardness and tenderness feature in this delectable specimen, which gives one tastes of both without one side or the other overpowering."

[Rawne turns his head away so Norton can't see him blushing.]
