"It's not paranoia if they're really out to get you."

His hand drifts down from Rawne's hair to lightly cup his cheek.

"Were they out to get you?"

[major_rawne]

He nuzzles into Norton's hand before he could stop himself. "Some were. Some for good reason. Some were because I was out for them, too."

[pharadyne]

"I can't blame you. I always take it rather personally when someone's trying to harm me, whatever their reason."

[major_rawne]

"It does shit all over your day, doesn't it?"

[pharadyne]

"I imagine it happens to you a lot, being a soldier. Having people try to kill you is basically part of the job description." His fingers seek out one of the scars he felt earlier and traces along it.

[major_rawne]

"The enemy is often doing that, yes. Though I usually don't take that personally. It's not like they hate me in particular." Just the Imperium in general.

[pharadyne]

"Did the paranoia stem from something...closer to home, then? Something that was personal?"

His eyes flick down to Rawne's lips as he contemplates kissing him again, but not before Rawne has had a chance to answer.

[major_rawne]

He sighs. "I was a criminal. A lot of people didn't like that. And... I made my vendetta against my commanding officer very well known. I didn't want him to get me first."

[pharadyne]

"Mmm, problems with the boss are the worst. Especially when your boss might literally kill you."

Norton has a bit of experience with that.

"What was your crime?"

[major_rawne]

"He could do it for no reason at all, too. He's a commissar, that's their purpose," he says, "I was a black marketeer. Smuggler. That shit."

[pharadyne]

"So how does a smuggler end up a soldier? Bad luck?"

[major_rawne]

"It was that or jail. So bad luck, I guess."

[pharadyne]

"Well, perhaps your luck is improving."

He coaxes Rawne's head down for another kiss.

[major_rawne]

"I hope so." He leans into the kiss, shifting so the angle is better.
