Oh, yeah, other people create problems all the time, too. It's not all the Admiral's fault. Just... a lot of it is.

[And Rawne still resents him for letting him go home for seven years and only reappearing with a deal when things were truly desperate.]

He does seem somewhat … distant, for all the power that he has. Especially with his ability to bring people here and send them away. [If he controls who disappears. They are beginning to think that he has less control over the disappearances than it might seem.]

He never shows his face. He does communicate, so he's better than some, but he's very absent.

Not even when you made your deal with him? [They understand that the Admiral would hide his identity from Inmates who might try to kill him, but hiding from Wardens seems like an odd choice.]

No, he appeared before me then. I was thinking of on the ship, that was back home.

Maybe he has something to hide.

Maybe. I don't know what that could be, though.

We have no idea how the Barge is powered, or why the Admiral does what he does. It might not only be for the sake of helping others.

True. It probably isn't. He is on the run from some kind of greater authorities.

Oh, that was before you got here. They caught up to us, once, and sent us to different ships for a while, before he found us again.

There are other ships like this?

Yeah. I have no clue where they are now, but they're out there.

Do they have similar purposes?

[major_rawne]

Yes. They went about it in different ways, but they were all intended to redeem people.

What did they have against the Admiral? Is his way … unconventional?

[major_rawne]

Perhaps. I'm not sure exactly what happened, as it was before I arrived, but he was on the run from the authorities he answers to. When they caught him, we were transferred.

If they had a system that was working for a long time and then failed for no apparent reason, I could see why they might be after him.

[Avalon traces their bracelet up their arm, stopping for a moment at the place where another bead should be.

Removing their bracelet will erase that as well.]

That could be why. They seem to like their system.

When you never die, finding a system is a good way to feel like you have a purpose. [At least in their experience.] Eventually, you realize that a purpose will last, even if everyone around you dies.

As long as the purpose doesn't get fucked up, over the course of centuries.

[They look up.] I guess that was in my file, then. [They might like to know how the Admiral finds all of this information.]

Mmhm. Also, it's just a thing that happens. Motives change over the length of one mortal life, let alone thousands of them.

Why?

[major_rawne]

Time makes everything change. If your plan is based in a strong emotion, like anger, it's nigh on impossible for that to last very long, either. I hated my commanding officer for years. Wanted to kill him. But that faded, eventually. It had to.

[chaos_drifter]

[When this fades, they can find another source of emotion.] What will you do when you go home?

[They want to find Adam again. If they do, they might be able to see him as someone of their own kind rather than as an obsession.]

I'm not going home. I'm going with Shaw and Root to help them help people.
